Khaleed Leon Thomas (Khleo is a stage moniker combining his first and middle name) was born January 30, 1989. He was born in Anchorage, Alaska where his father was stationed with the army. He eventually moved to Southern Caifornia when he was 6, due to his father being relocated. His  favorite school subject is science. When asked what was most challenging about the role of Zero, he said "Nothing. There was no challenging part. It was all fun." Khleo didn't read the book until after filming started. Says Khleo "I expected to be in the desert but you just can't be ready for that until you're there." To prepare for the 100-plus degree heat they would endure while filming, the actors had to under-go a 2 week physical training camp. At the camp, Khleo says, "We had to climb ropes, dig holes, run, go hiking, do situps and pushups. The whole time we were thinking, why do we need this? Then we get to the desert and we understood. It was so hot, you could only be in a hole for  20 minutes at a time." The young stars are also eager to talk about the song they recorded for the "Holes" soundtrack with rapper Doug E. Fresh, enthusiastically bursting into an a capella rendition.

The track, whch features LaBeouf, Thomas, and 3 of their fellow cast members, had its origins in the nearly 6-hour bus ride to and from the remote location."The only thing to do on that bus," says LaBeouf, "was nothing, twiddle our thumbs, sleep or free-style rap...When we werent filming, between takes, we'd all start rapping. The producers noticed it and came up with the idea for the song."
